Callosciurus phayrei (Blyth 1856)

Type Locality: Burma, Martaban, "Sent from Moulmein" (Robinson and Kloss, 1918 a:225) .

Vernacular Names: Phayre's Squirrel.

Synonyms: Callosciurus blanfordii (Blyth 1862); Callosciurus heinrichi Tate 1954 .

Distribution: Upper Irrawaddy River and Sittang River eastward to Salween River, S Burma.

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Considered a distinct species by Moore and Tate (1965) instead of a subspecies of flavimanus. Closely allied to caniceps and pygerythrus (Corbet and Hill, 1992:289) .
