Type Locality: "Either from Java or Sumatra." Restricted by Chasen (1940:114) to Sumatra.

Vernacular Names: Javanese Flying Squirrel.

Discussion: Formerly included Iomys sipora and Hylopetes winstoni (Corbet and Hill, 1980, 1986).
