Phlugiolopsis ( Phlugiolopsis ?) taiwanensis sp. nov. (Fig. 1)

Description. Male. Body size relatively small. Fastigium verticis conical, narrower than antennal scape, apex obtusely rounded, with a longitudinal sulcus on dorsal surface. Eyes oval, protruding forward. Apical segment of maxillary palpus slightly longer than subapical one, apex slightly swollen.

Pronotum elongate, anterior margin slightly straight while posterior margin arc-shaped (Fig. 1A); pronotal lateral lobe longer than deep, posterior margin oblique, humeral sinus absent (Fig. 1B).

Tegmina short, surpassing posterior margin of pronotum and reaching posterior margin of 2nd abdominal tergite, apices obtusely rounded; hind wings absent (Fig. 1A).

All femora unarmed ventrally, genicular lobes with apices obtuse. Fore coxae with 1 small spine; fore tibiae with 5– 6 spines respectively on inner and outer sides of ventral surface, tympanal organs open on both sides. Middle tibiae with 4–6 spines on both sides of ventral surface. Hind tibiae with 2 internal spines and 5 external spines on ventral surface, and dorsal surface with 22–27 spines separately on both sides, bearing two pairs of ventral apical spurs and one pair of dorsal apical spurs.

Centre of 10th abdominal tergite concave (Fig. 1D). Epiproct tongue-shaped, hidden under 10th abdominal tergite. Basal area of cercus stout, subsequently divided into two lobes, dorsal lobe slightly short, nearly rectangular, somewhat depressed, outer lateral angle triangular projecting backwards, terminal acute; ventral lobe broad basally, tapering, 1/3 apical area narrow, up-curved and twisted, terminal obtusely rounded (Fig. 1 C–F). Basal area of subgenital plate broad, apical area somewhat narrow, posterior margin obtusely rounded, with conical styli on ventral surface of subapex (Fig. 1E).

Coloration. Body yellowish brown. Dorsal area of head with 4 longitudinal black brown stripes. Disc of pronotum with a broad longitudinal brown stripe, apical half slightly expended, 2/3 anterior area of stripe black brown on lateral margins. Spines of all tibiae light brown. Apices of all femora and all tarsi light brown. Lateral margins of abdomen with one brown longitudinal stripe respectively.

Female. Unknown.

Material examined. Holotype: male, Yilan, Taiwan, 31 August, 2018, coll. Powei Chen. Paratype: 1♂, the other data as holotype.

Measurements(mm). Body: ♂ 5.8–6.6; pronotum: ♂ 4.1; tegmina: ♂ 2.2–2.4; hind femora: ♂ 7.9–8.3.

Discussion. This new species can be distinguished from known species of Phlugiolopsis by: basal area of male cercus stout, subsequently divided into two lobes, dorsal lobe slightly short, nearly rectangular, while ventral lobe broad basally, tapering, 1/3 apical area narrow, bent upwards and twisted; posterior margin of subgenital plate obtusely rounded, with conical styli on ventral surface of subapex.

Etymology. The name of the new species is derived from the type locality.
