Pseudholophylla lepidoptera (Blackburn, 1912)
Paralepidiota lepidoptera Blackburn, 1912: 51 .
Pseudholophylla lepidoptera: Britton 1978: 34 .
Lectotype (designated by Britton 1978) male: Type H.T. (circular red ringed, typeset) | Blackburn coll. 1910-236 (typeset) | Cairns E. Allen (typeset) | 7893 N. Qu. [North Queensland] (handwritten in red) T (handwritten) | Paralepidiota lepidoptera, Blackb. (handwritten) | my lectotype label; in NHML.
Paralectotype: 1 female: Cairns (typeset) | my paralectotype label; in SAM .
Blackburn (1912) described this species from one male (Cairns) and one female (N. Queensland), although both specimens are labelled ‘Cairns’. The ‘type’ was sent to NHML (Lea 1912). Britton (1978) referred to a “ holotype ” male from Cairns in SAM and a “ paratype ” female from North Queensland in SAM. Houston & Weir (1992) interpreted Britton’s (1978) incorrect reference to a holotype as a lectotype designation and the reference to a paratype as a paralectotype designation. Given that Britton (1978) clearly nominated the male specimen as the holotype, I follow Houston & Weir (1992) in accepting a lectotype designation by Britton (vide Article 74.5). Britton (1978) was in error in placing the lectotype in SAM, although there is an obvious space for it in that collection.
