TYPE LOCALITY: U.K., England, Devonshire, Stoke Gabriel (about 5 mi. (8 km) up the River Dart), Duncannon Pool .

DISTRIBUTION: Tropical and temperate waters of the world, including the Black Sea.

COMMENT: Includes aduncus, gephyreus, gillii, and nuuanu; see IWC, 1975, J. Fish Res. Bd. Can., 32:968. Ross, 1977, Ann. Cape Prov. Mus. Nat. Hist., 11(9): 135— 194, stated that aduncus (in the tropical Indo-Pacific) may be a distinct species. Hall, 1981:885-887, considered nesarnack (synonym of truncatus) and gillii distinct species.

PROTECTED STATUS: CITES - Appendix II as Order Cetacea .
