Type material examined. 1 ex. Holotype (NHM): card-mounted, genitalia mounted on glass slide pinned together with the specimen, “Holo- \ type” [round label with red border], “1390.” [in Broun’s hand], “New Zealand. [red underline] \ Broun Coll. \ Brit. Mus. \ 1922-482.”, “ Cyphon \ dilutus ” [in Broun’s hand], “Holotype \ Cyphon dilutus \ Broun \ det. T. Nyholm 1981” [in Nyholm’s hand].

Remarks. Broun described the species on the basis of a single specimen from Tairua (Broun 1883). According to Broun (1883), the species superficially resembles Mesocyphon or Atopida testacea .
