Type material examined. 2 exx. Lectotype (NHM, here validated): card-mounted, genitalia mounted on glass slide pinned together with the specimen, “LECTO- \ TYPE” [round label with blue border], “1378” [in Broun’s hand], “New Zealand. [red underline] \ Broun Coll. \ Brit. Mus. \ 1922-482.”, “ Cyphon \ remotus ” [in Broun’s hand], “Lectotype \ Cyphon remotus \ Broun \ det. T. Nyholm 1981” [in Nyholm’s hand]. Paralectotype (NHM, here validated): card-mounted, genitalia mounted on glass slide pinned together with the specimen, “PARA- \ LECTO- \ TYPE” [round label with blue border], “1378” [in Nyholm’s hand], “New Zealand. [red underline] \ Broun Coll. \ Brit. Mus. \ 1922-482.” [in Nyholm’s hand], “Paralectotype \ Cyphon remotus \ Broun \ det. T. Nyholm 1981” [in Nyholm’s hand].

Remarks. Broun described the species from two specimens collected in the vicinity of Whangarei Harbour (Broun 1883).
