Type material examined. 1 ex. Holotype (HNM), card-mounted, genitalia mounted on glass slide pinned together with the specimen, “ Cyphon arduus \ Type D. S. ” [written at base of card in Sharp’s hand], “C. ar- \ duus” [handwritten on genitalia slide], “Holo- \ type ” [round label with red border], “ Type \ H. T.” [round label with red border], “ Auckland, \ New Zealand . [red underline]”, “ Auckland Broun” [handwritten], “Sharp Coll. \ 1905-313.”, “ Holotype \ Cyphon arduus \ Sharp \ det. T. Nyholm 1981” [in Nyholm’s hand].

Remarks. A single specimen was collected in Auckland and sent by T. Broun to D. Sharp (Sharp 1878).
