TYPE LOCALITY: Restricted to the Orange River, South Africa by Pohle (1926; see Allen, 1939) .

DISTRIBUTION: From S Mauritania, Mali, Chad, and Sudan south to N South Africa, Botswana, and Namibia.

STATUS: CITES - Appendix I; U.S. ESA - Threatened; IUCN - Vulnerable.
